I Want to Learn More About GPS – It Fascinates Me and I Would Like a Career In This Technology

It is fairly obvious to anyone that knows anything about GPS devices that they’ve been getting better each and every year. It used to be that if you bought a GPS for your car that some streets would not be listed, and some data companies had not configured all of the cities, potential routes, and drive times. Thanks to mobile personal technology, big data, Google, and all these devices with GPS components embedded within them, everything has now changed. Okay so let’s talk about this for a second shall we?

Some might say that GPS has reached a peak, but I disagree, I think things are just starting to get going. Not long ago, I was talking to someone who wanted to work with technology, aerospace applications, and helps solve problems in the real world. He asked me what sort profession he might go into, and specifically what he might study in school. Perhaps you might have the same questions.

Well, if you are really interested in a career using Global Positioning Systems then there is a very good book I could recommend to you; “Introduction to GPS: The Global Positioning System, Second Edition,” by Ahmed El-Rabbany, 230 pages, 2006, ISBN: 978-1-59693-2.

Why did I choose this book for you, you ask? Well, it is beautifully illustrated for one reason, and it is up to date with all the latest and greatest new things in the industry, and everything is explained with simplicity. It also addresses so many new issues without all the insanity of scientific math which often confuses newbies. Of course, if you go take classes on GPS there will be textbooks, but if you read this book first you can better decide if this type of a career path makes sense for you prior to enrolling in college level classes, or having to go through all the prerequisites to even take a GPS high level class.

In fact, after you read this book, you might go onto YouTube and search out some GPS classes from some of the top college professors online. Another good book to read, and this is a book which I actually own in my technology book case, not one I had to look at in the library is;

“GPS Made Easy – Using Global Positioning Systems in the Outdoors” by Lawrence Letham, Rocky Mountain books, Great Britain, 2000, 208 pages, ISBN: 0-921102-66-6. I recently noted that you could buy this book used on Amazon for around four dollars.

What I’m saying to you is this; there will be plenty of career opportunities in global positioning systems, and if this subject fascinates you, and you are interested in technology, you might want to do a little of your own research. I think what you’ll find is that this is one career which is out of this world. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
